“Diversity and Cultural Competence in Healthcare”
While some gains have been made in regards to increasing diversity in the field of healthcare management, recent studies continue to suggest that there is still ample room for improvement. A combination of factors, including emphasis on simply focusing on numeric goals and compliance with existing regulatory requirements, has given rise to the loss of an ethical and moral basis for why diversity and and cultural competence should be embraced as a core business strategy. The Texas Diversity Healthcare Council (TXDHC aims to provide dialogue and awareness to builds an organizational culture and workforce that is culturally competent and inclusive.
The Council is multi-functional and works closely with its members to:
- Lead, develop and otherwise support organizational diversity development strategies that promote inclusive, respectful, diverse, and culturally competent employment, and services to consumers and communities.
- Develop and monitor disparity and diversity performance measures.
- Coordinate diversity development initiatives and groups across Texas.
- Represent the TDHC in all diversity development initiatives
We are pleased to announce the 2012 Schedule of Healthcare Summits, which will be held across the state and we invite all that touch and impact the healthcare profession to attend. You will be exposed to best practices from leading organizations that have developed proven models of success.

The key to any working or personal relationship is communication. We are all experts at communication, but not all of us are experts at effective communication. Communication across cultures cannot begin until we can communicate effectively in general. This presentation will review the biological, psychological , and practical aspects of effective communication, and will offer some suggestions for more impactful cross cultural interactions.
