Lubbock Chamber of Commerce
IRASEMA VELASQUEZ has been in Lubbock most of her life. She has been an avid community volunteer serving on many boards and currently serves on the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Executive Board as Chairperson, Wells Fargo Advisory Board, North & East Lubbock Community Development Corporation Advisory Board, and Texas Tech Institute of Environmental Health Advisory Board. Of her volunteer efforts, her most rewarding was chairing the United Way Campaign. After serving her term, she went back to fill the vacancy for the following year's campaign and also exceeded the goal. It was in that tenure that over $4 million was raised for the first time.
She has expertise in various areas, including volunteer efforts and diversity issues. She does public speaking including, but not limited to, topics such as diversity, education, volunteerism, motivation, leadership and inspiration. She is currently an independent insurance agent/consultant, specializing in worksite products. Getting to interact with people and providing solutions were key elements in her decision to choose this career. Prior to this, she was regional manager for Southwestern Bell taking an early retirement after 25 years.
Irasema has received several honors recognizing her community service throughout the years including the Chamber's Member of the Year, Girl Scouts Women of Distinction, YWCA Women of Excellence and the Rita Harmon Lifetime Achievement Award from United Way.
Irasema has been married to Andy for 37 years, has three married daughters, 6 grand daughters, and 3 grandsons.
